Guided Repsonse: The title of Crank

So far i love Crank, since it is all in poems. It took me awhile to understand how everything is being said, but i love this book! It is hard to put down because its heart wrenching because it is her dad, and the first boy she ever loved have the biggest influence in her life. The title it called Crank the word is spelled out in cocaine so when you first see it, you already have an idea about what is going on in the story, and it is called crank because there is a line in the book that shows you why she explains her first time trying like being on a rollercoaster the feeling you get when you are on your way up scared, anxious, nervous, then you hear it going to the top crank, crank, crank. Then it is here the feeling of excitement and flying all rolled up into one.

Free Choice: Dreamland

I read Dreamland towards the end of senior year. It was when i was first getting into Sarah Dessens books, and when i saw a new lifetime movie the other day it reminded me of that book. Dreamland is about a girl with a typical family, her sister is amazing in everything she does, straight A's, sports, honors she gets accepted to one of the top schools. Just recently though her sister has run away, noone knows where she is the summer before college. Caitlin was left by herself with her parents, then she meets Rogerson, a drug dealer. They start dating, and Rogerson is really controlling then he hits her. This book is about teenage dating and how manipulative guys can be with their girlfriends, and they stay. She dosent know why she does stay with him but she does, i think she is lost her family was stressed over her sister and she felt he gave her the attention she needed. The movie i saw was called Reviving Opeheal, same story it is about a boy and girl who start dating and he hits her, everyone finds out, but she secretly finds a way to sneak around and see him, until it gets out of control then she tries to end it and it gets where he wanted to kill her and himself since they couldn't be together. This happened to my older cousin and no one knew, every time i see her she drills into me how important it is to know you are worth more than any guy doing that to you. I think everyone should read this book, because it happens to much!

Thirteen Reasons Why: Free Choice

Reading Thirteen Reasons Why, has made me think about things i normally don't. Bullying, high school, clicks, good girl, or the school slut i figured after graduating i was out of all of that, that was a part of life you went through and to pray you come out ok. Do we think about the people we can affect with our words or actions?  Some people have said that Hannah just sounds like a drama queen and so far what we have read aren't big enough issues for you to kill yourself over, and maybe they aren't but to Hannah they were, every situation depends on the person not if there reasoning for what they did was good enough by our standards. Kids can be horrible but because they are young they don't understand the affects they may have on someone. Like the article we read Monday in class she was only 13, they were only in middle school but to her those were the people that decided what other people thought of her. I was watching a lifetime movie the other day, it was based on true events of a case where there was three best friends and two of them killed there third best friend because of a rumor that got started by someone saying this girl had slept with there boyfriends. Yes a RUMOR and they killed one of there best friends over it because of jealousy. Even if Thirteen Reasons Why isn't your kind of book, it is definitely a book people should read it tells a story of millions of kids who are going through the same thing.
