crank
I just finished Crank, it was so good! The detailing in the book really makes you feel for her and the people around her, it almost makes you want to say "wake up!". I feel for those who have been affected by drugs in any way it effects everyone around you. Your family, friends, you, and future kids you may have. I cant wait to the second one.

Guided Response: Sentence from Crank
"For awhile, without the monster whispering sweet and terrible nothings, Kristina was still in charge. But Bree was watching."
This sentence stood out because it shows you how strong the "monster" can be. It takes you over and makes you feel like u have an alter ego almost. She has a dark cloud over her, and she feels like it gives her some kind of confidence she would not normally have so in a way i think she likes it. But i think she will realize she can be that herself if she wants. Bree is what the "monster" turns her into. Bree is her craving for the "monster".

Guided Repsonse: The title of Crank
So far i love Crank, since it is all in poems. It took me awhile to understand how everything is being said, but i love this book! It is hard to put down because its heart wrenching because it is her dad, and the first boy she ever loved have the biggest influence in her life. The title it called Crank the word is spelled out in cocaine so when you first see it, you already have an idea about what is going on in the story, and it is called crank because there is a line in the book that shows you why she explains her first time trying like being on a rollercoaster the feeling you get when you are on your way up scared, anxious, nervous, then you hear it going to the top crank, crank, crank. Then it is here the feeling of excitement and flying all rolled up into one.

Free Choice: Dreamland
I read Dreamland towards the end of senior year. It was when i was first getting into Sarah Dessens books, and when i saw a new lifetime movie the other day it reminded me of that book. Dreamland is about a girl with a typical family, her sister is amazing in everything she does, straight A's, sports, honors she gets accepted to one of the top schools. Just recently though her sister has run away, noone knows where she is the summer before college. Caitlin was left by herself with her parents, then she meets Rogerson, a drug dealer. They start dating, and Rogerson is really controlling then he hits her. This book is about teenage dating and how manipulative guys can be with their girlfriends, and they stay. She dosent know why she does stay with him but she does, i think she is lost her family was stressed over her sister and she felt he gave her the attention she needed. The movie i saw was called Reviving Opeheal, same story it is about a boy and girl who start dating and he hits her, everyone finds out, but she secretly finds a way to sneak around and see him, until it gets out of control then she tries to end it and it gets where he wanted to kill her and himself since they couldn't be together. This happened to my older cousin and no one knew, every time i see her she drills into me how important it is to know you are worth more than any guy doing that to you. I think everyone should read this book, because it happens to much!

Thirteen Reasons Why: Free Choice
Reading Thirteen Reasons Why, has made me think about things i normally don't. Bullying, high school, clicks, good girl, or the school slut i figured after graduating i was out of all of that, that was a part of life you went through and to pray you come out ok. Do we think about the people we can affect with our words or actions? Some people have said that Hannah just sounds like a drama queen and so far what we have read aren't big enough issues for you to kill yourself over, and maybe they aren't but to Hannah they were, every situation depends on the person not if there reasoning for what they did was good enough by our standards. Kids can be horrible but because they are young they don't understand the affects they may have on someone. Like the article we read Monday in class she was only 13, they were only in middle school but to her those were the people that decided what other people thought of her. I was watching a lifetime movie the other day, it was based on true events of a case where there was three best friends and two of them killed there third best friend because of a rumor that got started by someone saying this girl had slept with there boyfriends. Yes a RUMOR and they killed one of there best friends over it because of jealousy. Even if Thirteen Reasons Why isn't your kind of book, it is definitely a book people should read it tells a story of millions of kids who are going through the same thing.

13 Reasons Why:Guided Response
The title 13 reasons why is significant to the whole story because this story is about a girl who commits suicide and it is because of 13 people, (or they apart of the reason) who she puts on tapes and has them listen to so they can hear and understand why she did kill herself and how they are linked. I have not finished this book yet, but i will soon because how everything and everyone are linked together i just want to know already. I don't know all the characters yet but so far i really do like this book and i love the title because its an attention getter and the title of the book is what the whole story is about, its simple but a very honest title about what you are going to be reading.

A Walk to Remember
So A Walk to Remember is my all time favorite movie, when i was at barnes and noble the other day looking at Nicholas Sparks books i found it and i got so excited! I didnt know this was a book and that, that was made into a movie. It is actually alot different the movie takes place in what im guessing was the 90's but the story was orignally written for the 50's, the book is being read by the main boy Landon who is now 57, but when he met Jamie they were seventeen and it was 1958. Jamie was the preachers daughter and Landon was a little mischievous teenager. In the movie the setting is something more familiar to us being that the movie was set in the 90's, but i like the book because you get to see how things may have been in high school back then is it always going to be the same no matter how old or is different with time? I havent gotten that far in it yet but i am already comparing the two.

Guided response sentence from Lock and Key
"When my mom first took off, i didn't think it was for good. I figured she was just out on one of her escapades, which usually lasted only as long as it took her to run out of money or welcome, a few days at most."
It was sad to me because this to her is something normal after this sentence she talks about the first couple of times her mom did this she was so worried and when her mom came back she would be annoyed with Ruby for asking too many questions about where she was, so she stopped asking.Ruby saw this as her mom teaching her how to take care of herself on her own, which is sad because to me it sounded like she was still making excuses for her moms lack of care for Ruby, but as the story goes on Ruby stops making excuses for her mom.

that summer
Hi guys! so i just finished reading my last Sarah Dessen book=[ Sunday was a sad day for me. It was a short book about a girl who is almost 6 feet tall at 15, her parents are divorced and she lives with her mom and sister who is getting married in less than a month. Her sister has had a ton of boyfriends in her time but one Haven the main girl still remebers is Sumner you learn it was her sister first love ans Haven first sense of what she believes a good guy is and she runs into him and he is kind of a crutch for her through out the book but never anything more than a friend, he reminds her of her favorite summer when her sister was dating him but suddenly they broke up and she blamed her sister (they dont have the best relationship throughout this book) but in the end you find out the first boy either one of them cared about was each there first disappointment.

The book im reading now is called lock and key. I havent gotten that far in it so far its about a girl whos mom abandoned her and she goes to live with her sister who she hasnt seen in years and her new brother in law. They are really wealthy and shes not very adjusted so far to her new life and she keeps saying she is going to run away as soon as she turns 18, but i dont think she will end up going and leaving her sisteragain, and of course theres a boy slowly starting to creep into the story so we'll see. I think i like it so much so far because even tho she dosent have sympathy for herself and she appears strong, but you can see her slowly starting to depend on people and let people help her, its sad but i know it will have a happy ending.

The reading i used to do compared to what i do now has changed i never really liked to read all that much, but now if i find an author or series that i like ill start reading everything that author has done or every book in the series. I used to have to be forced to read in school but now i could spend half of my pay check at a book store.
